The Washington Nationals have allowed just 2-runs to the Diamondbacks this series against 20 scored by the Nats. Today, the Nats go for the rare road sweep. The Nats did it to the Brewers, and was on the other end of this a few days ago at the hands of the Marlins. A win today by the Nats would get them to two games over .500 and squarely back in the Wild Card discussion with 96 games remaining in the regular season.

After today’s game, the Nats will fly to San Francisco for a three game series leading up to a Thursday day-off. When the team returns to D.C., they will be less than three weeks to July — the time you really start to assess the team you have and want to be.

Washington has Cade Cavalli on the mound today, and the Diamondbacks go with righty Michael Soroka who was with the Nats a year ago. The Nats should have a good scouting report on him. Remember, work his pitch count and expand it as much as you can.

Manager Blake Butera has a new arm in Riley Cornelio who was recalled today to replace Cole Henry who struggled pitching in close games. We don’t know the future plan for Cornelio in his second stint with the team. Here is Butera’s bullpen chart:

The FanGraphs WAR chart is accumulating data. The numbers are getting very large as the season is headed towards the halfway point on June 24. The OAA defense stat is now giving us a picture of what the Nats have — and don’t have.
