The Washington Nationals have to start a new winning streak. At the ⅟₄ pole remaining on the season mid-game today, tomorrow begins the final 40-games in the 2026 season. Paul Toboni thinks his team still has a chance to make the postseason, and believes that James Wood will be back within the next two weeks from his mild oblique injury.
The Nats are loaded with Rochester Red Wings on the current roster, and today marks another promotion from Rochester with the MLB debut for Jackson Kent, a 4ᵗʰ round draft pick by the Washington Nationals in 2024 out of the University of Arizona. By the way, Kent is represented by Octagon Baseball.
For the Cubs, they have another lefty on the mound. Tonight is David Peterson. Nats’ manager Blake Butera will go with a few more righty batters in his lineup tonight.
As mentioned, Kent will start tonight’s game for the Nationals, and hopefully Alexa Datt won’t be interviewing his family until after he has finished his outing. Unfortunately, a player had to leave the roster to make room for Kent, and Miles Mikolas was DFA’d today. Kent takes the place of Mikolas on the 40-man roster.
Toboni talked about him adding in a 4th pitch into his regular mix.

On offense, the Nats have the 1st in MLB for the most runs scored this season at 649 runs, and that is an impressive 5.36 runs per game. With the Nats pitching giving up 4.73 earned runs per game, the difference is really those pesky unearned runs due to the errors. Overall, the Nats have a +22 run differential on the season.
The FanGraphs WAR chart is now large in its sample size. You can certainly start to extrapolate the numbers for the full-season. The OAA defense stat is now giving us a picture of what the Nats have — and don’t have.
