The Washington Nationals blew last night’s game. Time to even up this series. Why have the Marlins tormented the Nats so much? How can manager Blake Butera turn that around?
Can the Nats get on a winning streak as there are just 31 games remaining in this regular season. If they don’t, the final results might look very disappointing. To avoid a 100 loss season, the Nats need to win two more games. To avoid a 90 loss season, the Nats need to win 12 more games. And to get to a winning season, the Nats would have to go 21-10 to finish the season.
Last night’s game might have been a loss, however there was a lot of good baseball by the Washington Nationals. Daylen Lile might have had his best game of the 2026 season. Jacob Young picked up two walks, and manufactured the game-tying run off of a Lile RBI single. Brad Lord as the starter was solid, and Will Dion and Orlando Ribalta were excellent in relief.

On offense, the Nats have the 1st in MLB for the most runs scored this season at 678 runs, and that is an impressive 5.25 runs per game. With the Nats pitching giving up 4.67 earned runs per game, the difference is really those pesky unearned runs due to the errors. Overall, the Nats have a +16 run differential on the season.
The FanGraphs WAR chart is now large in its sample size. You can certainly start to extrapolate the numbers for the full-season. The OAA defense stat is now giving us a picture of what the Nats have — and don’t have.
