The Washington Nationals won yesterday on a 10ᵗʰ inning walk-off by Dylan Crews. That was the team’s first walk-off win of the 2026 season. In another first, CJ Abrams will play his first game today at second base. In another first, the Nats have won two consecutive games against the Miami Marlins this season and have a chance to win this 4-game series with a win today.

At 1 pm today, James Wood will be playing a rehab game at Double-A Harrisburg. This marks Wood’s first game since injuring his oblique back on August 3ʳᵈ which also happened to be the trade deadline day.

Getting Wood back into this lineup at the start to September would be a great lineup enhancement before the team flies to the west coast to face the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday and the San Diego Padres on Labor Day.

The Nats are now on a modest 3-game winning streak. Can they extend this longer as there are just 23 games remaining in this regular season. To avoid a 90 loss season, the Nats need to get 8-games in the win column. And to get to a winning season, the Nats would have to go 17-6 to finish the season.

❝We’ve been waiting for a walk-off win, right? You got one. There you go. There you go. … Find a way to get on-base and pass it to the next guy. It’s fun being the hero of course. … Knowing the you have the trust in the guy behind you to get the job done. Crews came up big for us.❞

— said manager Blake Butera after yesterday’s game

On offense, the Nats have the second most runs scored in MLB this season at 718 runs, and that is an impressive 5.20 runs per game. With the Nats pitching giving up 4.66 earned runs per game, the difference is really those pesky unearned runs due to the errors. Overall, the Nats have a +20 run differential on the season.

Here is manager Blake Butera‘s bullpen chart:

The FanGraphs WAR chart is now large in its sample size. You can certainly start to extrapolate the numbers for the full-season. The OAA defense stat is now giving us a picture of what the Nats have — and don’t have.

“I said that my goal is to make the Nationals the envy of sport.”

“To me, that means an organization defined by our relentless pursuit of excellence, strengthened by our connection to each other and fueled by our positive energy. As a result, we become an organization that players and staff are itching to join because they know it’s where they will develop and thrive most; a place that energizes our loyal fans and attracts new ones, and where success is achieved – and sustained – over time.”
